Real Life Inquiry

Connecting Curriculum to the Real World

At Parap Primary, Real Life Inquiry (RLI) is our whole school approach to learning that empowers students to think deeply, take action, and make meaningful connections to their world. Grounded in our Learner Dispositions and School Values, RLI promotes self-directed, resilient, curious, creative, and collaborative learners.

Each term, student learning is anchored to a whole-school Global Concept—such as Identity & Belonging or Sustainable Futures—and connected to a focus School Value. These concepts drive inquiry across the curriculum, blending learning areas like HASS, Science, English, Technologies and the Arts, with the Australian Curriculum Achievement Standards and General Capabilities embedded throughout.

Inquiry with Purpose

Using the Solution Fluency 6D model—Define, Discover, Dream, Design, Deliver, and Debrief—students identify real-world challenges and work through a structured inquiry process to create, test, and reflect on solutions. This approach builds higher-order thinking skills, promotes ownership over learning, and allows for authentic assessment through ‘I Can’ statements aligned with curriculum goals.

Learning Inspired by Students

RLI is student-centred and shaped by their interests, experiences, and community. Students are encouraged to question, explore, and innovate in ways that matter to them, making learning meaningful, relevant, and memorable.
